To obtain a marriage license, the bride and groom must appear in person at the City Clerk's office to complete the application. Marriage licenses are issued Monday through Friday, from 9:00 a.m. until 3:30 p.m. Applicants must provide a certified, long form birth certificate and photo identification in the form of a driver's license or passport. If either applicant is 16 or 17 years of age, they must appear with both parents and copies of their birth certificates. If divorced, originals or certified copies of divorce papers, in English, must be provided. There is a 24 hour waiting period before the marriage can be performed and the license must be used within 60 days. Marriage licenses, once issued, can be used anywhere in New York State. The fee for a marriage license is $40.00 payable in cash or by check.
