Ypd_patchOn October 31, 2007 at 3:25 a.m. Officers from the Fourth Precinct (P.O. Denis DiDonato and P.O. Mario Centuori) saw suspicious activity in the rear parking lot of 498 Nepperhan Avenue, Systems Dynamics. They investigated and found the gate open and the lock cut. Inside the lot they saw a car with a broken window and located a suspect hiding behind a fence. This male had a gravity knife in his pocket and a bag of tools hidden on the property.

  • Ira Sherman, 35 year old male of 180 Hawthorne Avenue was charged with Criminal Possession of a Weapon 4th degree, Criminal Trespass, Criminal Mischief 4th degree and Possession of Burglars Tools. He will be arraigned in Yonkers City Court on 10/31/07.


Ypd_patchStreet Crime Officers Robert Devitt and Russell Kilgore gained information that a male in a green Mercury Villager was selling cocaine from the car during night time hours. The officers saw this car parked in the McDonalds parking lot at 155 South Broadway on 10/26/07 around 11:00 p.m. A surveillance was set up and they witnessed a drug transaction. A male pedestrian bought cocaine from the driver of the car.

  • Jack Smith, 28 year old male of 42 Jackson Street was charged with Criminal Possession of Controlled Substance 7th degree. He had bought a zip lock bag of cocaine from the male in the car and he possessed it when officers detained him.
  • Juan Vasquez, 31 year old male of 110 East 129th Street New York , N.Y. was charged with Criminal Sale of Controlled Substance 3rd degree and Criminal Possession of Controlled Substance 3rd degree. He sold the drugs to Smith from the car. Officers found 65 zip lock bags of cocaine in the green Villager.

Both Smith and Vasquez were arraigned in Yonkers City Court on 10-27-07.


Ypd_patchOn October 24, 2007 at 1:30 p.m. Police Officer John Traynor, from the Second Precinct Street Crime, saw a car pulled over at Central Park Avenue and Yonkers Avenue. The officer noticed the occupants looked upset and the male passenger had blood on his hand. An investigation revealed that the passenger in the car, Leon Rae Williams, was involved in a fight in front of 12 Lawrence Street. Williams got in an argument with a 32 year old male (local resident) and displayed a handgun. Williams then struck this male in the face, causing a laceration and knocking him unconscious. The victim was treated at a local hospital and released. The handgun used in the assault was recovered by P.O. Traynor, it was hidden in the car Williams was a passenger in. The handgun is a 45 caliber Sig Sauer Semi Automatic with seven rounds in the magazine. Also recovered from the vehicle was a set of brass knuckles. The female driver was not charged with a crime.

  • Leon Rae Williams, 30 year old male of 460 South 1st Street, Mount Vernon, N.Y. was charged with Criminal Possession of a Weapon 3rd degree, Assault 2nd degree and with an active warrant out of New York City for Criminal Possession of Marijuana. He will be arraigned in Yonkers City Court on 10/25/07.


Ypd_patchOn October 23, 2007 at 4:23 p.m. a 16 year old male, New York City resident, was robbed of his cell phone while inside Singas Pizza located at 41 Dock Street. The male was approached in the Yonkers public Library by two males who wanted his cell phone. The victim left that location but the two suspects followed him. When he walked into the pizzeria the two suspects did steal his cell phone. Police were called and a suspect description was aired. Officer searched the area for the suspects. Police Officers Michael Mulvey and Michael Paglia saw a male fitting the description in Larkin Plaza. As the officers approached they saw the male throw an item to the ground. Officers detained this male near the public library; the victim identified this male as the person who robbed him and identified the item the suspect dropped as the cell phone that was stolen from him. At this time the second suspect has not been located.

  • Corey Jester, 17 year old male of 463 Hawthorne Avenue was charged with Robbery 2nd degree. He will be arraigned in Yonkers City Court on 10/24/07.
  • Suspect #2: 16 to 19 year old black male wearing a red hooded sweatshirt.

Ypd_patchOn October 22, 2007 at 7:30 p.m. the Yonkers Police were notified that a burglary just occurred at 970 North Broadway, 21st Century Encology. The Public Safety Dispatcher broadcast the description of the suspect and sent units to the area. Officer Darryl Benjamin, of the Fourth Precinct, detained a male fitting the description near the wooded area north of DeHaven Drive. A witness identified this male as the person who broke into 970 North Broadway, suite 101 and stole a desktop computer.
  • Tirey Allen, 21 year old male of 76 Caryl Avenue was charged with Burglary 3rd degree, Petit Larceny and Unlawful Possession of Marijuana ( he had marijuana in his pocket). He will be arraigned in Yonkers City Court on 10/23/07.


Ypd_patchOn October 21, 2007 at 3:20 a.m. officers were sent to 201 Palisade Avenue (Commerce Middle School) on a call of burglar alarm activation. Upon arrival Police Officer Wayne Simoes and Christopher O’Brien saw two people on the side of the building. As they approached both people dropped items and began to run. Officers caught them on the Palisade Avenue side of the building. They admitted to breaking into the school and stealing two computers. The property the males dropped included two Dell Optiplex Computers. Officers found two windows broken on the school. One to gain entry into the school and one to gain entry to the classroom where the computers were stored.

  • Joel Garcia, 16 year old male of 450 Riverdale Avenue was charged with Burglary 3rd degree. He will be arraigned in Yonkers City Court on 10/22/07.


Ypd_patchOn October 18, 2007 the City wide Street Crime Unit made two arrests for drug possession in an area that has numerous complaint of drug use. The first arrest occurred around 5:00 p.m. in front of 53 Palisade Avenue. Police Officers Louis Venturino and Betty Morales saw what appeared to be a drug transaction. When officers approached one of the males threw a wad of brown paper to the ground. Inside of the paper were 10 pills of generic Oxycotine pain killer. Darin Scott, 47 year old male of 8 Wells Avenue was charged with Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance 5th degree. (D felony)

Around the same time Officers Ronald Faiver and John Donaghy saw what appeared to another drug transaction in front of 4 Waring Row. A male was handed cash, he went into his shoe and retrieved a plastic bag then handed what appeared to be drugs to another male. Officers did not catch the male who bought the drugs but they did catch the drug seller.

Leanell Hines, 16 year old male of 631 Schroeder Street was found to have 19 clear plastic bags of crack cocaine and $115.00 cash in his possession. He was charged with Criminal Possession of Controlled Substance 5th degree (D Felony) and Criminal Possession of Controlled Substance 3rd degree. (B Felony)
Both suspects will be arraigned in Yonkers City Court on 10/19/07.
Ypd_patchOn October 17, 2007 at 12:36 a.m. a man called police because a group of people were vandalizing his truck with magic markers. Plain clothed Anti Crime Officers Dale Hughes and Marash Vataj from the second precinct responded to Richfield Terrace to look for suspects. When the officers approached five males ran away. Officers caught and detained three males in the rear of the 1178 Yonkers Avenue. The males detained were identified as the people who were vandalizing the van (2007 GMC Van). The suspects had black magic markers in their pockets and two had marijuana in their possession.

  • Julian Rivera, 17 year old male of 333 Bronx River Road, charged with Criminal Mischief 3rd degree, Making Graffiti, Possession of Graffiti Instruments.
  • Michael Witkowski, 21 year old male of 55 Sherwood Avenue, charged with Criminal Mischief 3rd degree, making Graffiti, Possession of graffiti Instruments and Unlawful Possession of Marijuana.
  • Jordan Franco, 16 year male of 675 Kimball Avenue, charged with Criminal Mischief 3rd degree, Making Graffiti, Possession of Graffiti Instruments, and Unlawful Possession of Marijuana.

All three were arraigned in Yonkers City Court on 10/17/07.


Ypd_patchOn October 16, 2007 the Yonkers Police Department’s Youth Crime Unit conducted investigations involving complaints of Sale of alcoholic beverages to minors. Police Officers Angelo Prestamo, Alfonso Degaetano and Sergeant Robert Zingaro investigated seven different delis / grocery stores throughout the city. They used an underage male (18 years old) to buy beer, violating New York State Liquor Laws. Of the seven establishments investigated two did sell the beer to the youth. Information of the two establishments is as follows:

  • Mobile Gas Station of 838 Kimball Avenue, clerk Edgar Castillo 44 year old male of 81 West 182nd Street Bronx N.Y. was arrested and charged with Unlawfully Dealing with a Child 1st degree and Prohibited Sale of Alcohol to a minor.
  • AMD Automotive of 146 Tuckahoe Road, clerk Ravi Narine 22 year old male of 44 Sickles Street New York, N.Y. was arrested and charged with Unlawfully Dealing with a Child 1st degree and Prohibited Sale of Alcohol to a minor.

The two clerks will be arraigned in Yonkers City Court on 10/30/07. Both corporations were also cited for Unlawful Sale of Alcohol to a Minor and are to respond to Yonkers City Court on 10/30/07.


Ypd_patchOn October 15, 2007 the Yonkers Police Department’s Detective Division arrested Dwayne Fields, 34 year old male of 201 North Broadway for Murder. The murder occurred on 6/23/06 at 12:12 a.m. next to 3 Schroeder Street. Jonathan Hernandez, 29 year old male, local resident, was shot in the left side of his chest and succumbed to his injuries. Another male, 32 year old local resident was shot in his back. Victim #2 drove himself to Saint Josephs Hospital. He was transferred and treated at Westchester Medical Center, he survived his injuries.

Field was charged with Murder 2nd degree, Assault 1st degree and Criminal Possession of a Weapon 3rd degree. He will be arraigned in Yonkers City Court on 10/16/07.


Ypd_patchOn 9/27/07 a residence was burglarized on Glenwood Avenue. The investigation revealed fingerprints on the living room window (point of entry). The fingerprints were lifted by the Criminal Identification Unit and submitted for analysis. The fingerprints came back as belonging to Samuel White, 19 year old male of 58 Chestnut Street. The Burglary Unit’s Detective Harry Nalbandian notified patrol officers that Samuel White was wanted for questioning in relation to this burglary. Officers Robert Santobello and John Daugherty of the Housing Unit, using their extensive knowledge of people in the Schroeder Street area, captured White the next day on Palisade Avenue. The Burglary Unit questioned White and charged him with Burglary 2nd degree. He was arraigned in Yonkers Criminal Court on October 9, 2007.

White has a criminal history of arrests for gun possession, felony assault, felony drug possession and bail jumping. He has served a year in County jail in the past.
The following property was stolen during the burglary (no property has been recovered at this time): Cannon digital cameras, various camera lenses and a laptop.


Ypd_patchOn October 5, 2007 the Yonkers Police responded to 61 South Broadway’s Hudson Valley National Bank on a report of an attempted robbery. About 12:20 p.m. a man walked into the bank and demanded cash. When the teller walked away from her section, the man left the bank empty handed. This man then walked down the street to 47 South Broadway and entered Chase bank. Once inside, he slid a plastic bag over to a teller and again demanded cash, this time he claimed he had a gun. The teller walked away from her section and the male walked out of the bank with no money. After viewing surveillance videos, police were able to locate a suspect near Nepperhan Avenue and New Main Street. The suspect, Alfred Long, a 58 year old male (currently homeless) was identified by witnesses and placed under arrest. He was charged with Attempted Robbery 3rd degree for the crime committed at the Hudson Valley National Bank and Attempted Robbery 1st degree for the crime committed at the Chase Bank. Long will be arraigned in Yonkers City Court on 10/6/07.
Alfred Long has an extensive criminal history dating back to 1967.

They used an underage male (18 years old) to buy beer, violating New York State Liquor Laws. Of the seven establishments investigated two did sell the beer to the youth. Information of the two establishments is as follows:

  • Louis and Son Grocery, 165 McLean Avenue, clerk Luis Perez, 59 year old male of 47 Ridge Avenue was arrested and charged with Unlawfully Dealing with a Child 1st degree and Unlawful Sale of Alcohol to a minor.
  • Dilsa Deli, 159 Ashburton Avenue, clerk Zulma Hernandez, 46 year old male of 1157-10 Central Park Avenue was arrested and charged with Unlawfully Dealing with a Child 1st degree and Unlawful Sale of Alcohol to a minor.

The two clerks will be arraigned in Yonkers City Court on 10/18/07. Both corporations were also cited for Unlawful Sale of Alcohol to a Minor and are to respond to Yonkers City Court on 10/18/07.
